Bicycle/E-Scooter Registry
If your bike or e-scooter is stolen and you cannot identify it, recovery is unlikely, even if the thief is caught. The KU Police Department encourages all students, staff, and visitors to participate in our free bicycle and e-scooter registration program, designed to reduce theft and improve recovery on campus.
Why Register?
Having your bike or e-scooter’s serial number on file allows us to quickly identify the rightful owner if it is recovered.
How to Register:
- Complete and submit the Bicycle/E-Scooter Registration Form.
If your bike or e-scooter does not have a serial number, call the KU Police at 785-864-5900 and ask for Community Engagement. We can help you mark your bike with a unique identifier, such as your driver’s license number, so it can be registered and traced.
Please note: Your registration cannot be processed without a serial number.
Finding Your Serial Number:
Most serial numbers are located under the bottom bracket, where the two pedal cranks meet. Turn your bike upside down to check this area. If you do not find a serial number there, check other common locations such as the front headset or rear stays. See the diagram below for the five most common serial number locations.
Register your bike or e-scooter today to help keep KU’s campus safe and reduce theft.
